Hermeneutics
I'm really interested in the interpretation of the Bible as applied to gender theory with the Southern Protestants in the Bible Belt. I find it truly fascinating that people can completely dismiss certain aspects of the Bible for various reasons and hold on to others. Women in this group seem to have a role they're supposed to play. They're the home-maker, "child-rear-er", and always second in command. I know that some women willing assume this role of subservience because they want to, but I don't know if it's because they were taught to be that way or that they just like the idea of it. There's a very thin line there. More later...

This is a very interesting topic. I will say that the bible is very specific about the role of a woman. Titus 2:3-5. And , the bible does not just speak of women as completely inferior and incompetent. According to the bible, there is a reason that man is the head of the household. God created man and woman differently and they serve different roles due to their specific strengths and weaknesses. Men, according to the bible, tend to hold to logic and reason where woman are nurturing and think more with emotions. Southern Protestant woman follow these roles, yes because they like it, because they believe it is what is right. They are willing to submit because they are instructed to do so by the doctrine that they follow. Whether or not it's absurd, that's why they do it. I hope this is some insight :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. That's actually where I was headed with this, so yes, it does. :) Thanks. I'm looking into how the ideologies in "Bible Belt" sway the opinions of women in the south.
